It is really very simple and the first step is to diagnosis if it is actually baby colic or not. Symptoms of baby colic are that of excessive crying for more than three weeks without cause or reason for doing so. If baby is crying, do not automatically assume that it is baby colic. It could mean that the baby simply is hungry, thirsty or just needs some attention. If after doing everything you can imagine and your baby is still crying and at certain times of the day seems to do this, then it is probably colic.

Later, ask for the bathing toy back. Reach for the duck and say “duck” again. Your baby might just hand you the duck, understanding that that object is a duck.

Some recommend that, should a baby not suck on the pacifier or dummy, it should be dipped in honey or something sweet.

This, however, is not a good idea because it is effectively the same as placing a large candy in an infant’s mouth and does not create good health issues at all. On the contrary, this idea has shown to surface some development issues with the infant’s teeth and is not recommended.

Infant Crying

Infants communicate by crying. They are new to the world, and every sensation, every feeling is something new. New parents often have a hard time determining what an infant needs when he cries. There are some basic needs that the new parent can check when an infant is crying, to be sure that they are met. Any one of them, or a combination, can be the reason the infant is crying.

First, check to see if the baby’s diaper is wet or soiled. That can make an infant very uncomfortable. If the baby needs a change, then change his diaper. Often, that will solve the problem. Infants often get very upset and cry hard during a diaper change. That is usually because being uncovered can be uncomfortable for him. Do the change as quickly and efficiently as possible. Then, cover the baby back up with a blanket or the baby’s clothing.

Sleepless Nights

Having a baby changes everything, including your sleep pattern. In the beginning, you can expect plenty of sleepless nights for both you and your baby, but know that this is only natural. Your baby will wake up throughout the night in the early days for feedings, to be changed, because they are too cold, too hot, sick, cranky or maybe even for no reason at all.

It’s important not to get discouraged during this time period if you cannot get because of your baby’s sleepless nights. In fact, you should consider getting your baby to sleep for a few hours each night before they wake up as a victory!
